Musik i Dalarna aims to provide the residents of the county with music experiences by offering concerts, musical theater, and other music events. We aim to stimulate the local music scene and collaborate with the cultural sector, community organizations, businesses, and tourism to together build a Dalarna with a vibrant cultural climate that shines far and wide.

About Musik i Dalarna
Musik i Dalarna – the county institution for music in Dalarna – consists of a range of music related activities. Dalasinfoniettan – the chamber orchestra of Dalarna – offers a rich and diverse concert program throughout the county and sometimes even beyond the regional borders and internationally. Unga Musik i Dalarna provides high-quality music programs to all schools in Dalarna and organizes competitions for arts school students. Musik i Dalarna is also the responsible authority for Dalapop – a resource and production center for popular music in Dalarna. We are also responsible for the post-secondary HMU education at Musikkonservatoriet Falun. We project manage the regional music competition and meeting place Imagine Dalarna and have the national coordinating function for Imagine Sweden. Musik i Dalarna also serves as the international coordinator for Regional Musik i Sverige – a national collaboration organization and cultural policy actor for the country’s 23 regional music institutions, which are members of Jeunesses Musicales International – an organization based in Brussels that works to unite and strengthen young people worldwide through music.

Musik i Dalarna is owned by a foundation with Region Dalarna as responsible authority. The contributors are the Swedish Arts Council, Region Dalarna, and the municipalities of Falun and Borlänge. Our own revenue comes from ticket sales, concert sales to local organizers and businesses, and sponsorship income.

Within Musik i Dalarnas’ activities, there are 15 employees in various roles. Dalasinfoniettan has 28 full-time musicians. The operations are conducted in privately rented premises, where all administration and orchestra rehearsals take place. Our acting county music director is David Lundblad.
